Objectives of the Course o teach students the fundamental principles of speed and torque control of electrical machines using thyristor-based power electronics circuits; to develop competence in the design, analysis, and harmonic assessment of DC and AC drive systems.
Course Content DC machine speed control and variable frequency AC drive principles. Introduction to static rectification and inversion. The DC link converter. The phase-controlled cycloconverter. Operation of AC motors with non-sinusoidal supply waveforms (harmonics, harmonic torques, and losses). Use of phase-controlled rectifiers in DC motor speed control. Static variable frequency AC drive. Speed control of induction motors using thyristors. Commutatorless DC motors (CLDC).
Course Methods and Techniques Lecture explanations, slides, diagrams, and videos used to visually explain complex topics.
