Objectives of the Course To teach graduate students the advanced usage of microcontrollers in power electronics applications, programming hardware units (PWM, ADC, HSO, etc.) for controlling power converters, and implementing real-time control strategies.
Course Content Review of assembly language programming of microcontrollers. General structure and operation of the microcontroller. Introduction to the adaptation of the microcontroller to the control of power electronic instruments. Use of HSL (High-Speed Link), HSO (High-Speed Output), PWM, A/D converters, I/O ports, timers, and interrupts. Control principles of thyristors, IGBTs, and MOSFETs using the controller. Simple embedded control applications.
Course Methods and Techniques Lecture explanations, slides, diagrams, and videos used to visually explain complex topics.
